Important: Border and visa rules change often. The details below are a general guide for Ugandan passport holders as of 2026 — always confirm the latest requirements with the destination's embassy or your JamboCampus coordinator before you pay for a trip.
Step one
Get your Ugandan passport
You cannot leave the country without one. Start here even before you can afford a trip — while your credits build.
- Get your National ID (NIN) first. You need a valid National Identification Number to apply. If you've lost your ID, sort that out at NIRA first.
- Apply online at the Directorate of Citizenship & Immigration Control portal (immigration.go.ug). Fill the e-passport application and book an appointment.
- Pay the fee. An ordinary 34-page e-passport is around UGX 250,000 (48-page and express options cost more). Pay via the bank/PRN slip generated by the portal.
- Attend your appointment at Kampala (Kololo) or a regional office for biometric capture (photo + fingerprints).
- Collect your passport — typically about 10+ working days later. Keep the collection slip.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel date and have at least 2 blank pages. Many countries reject travellers who ignore this.
Step two
Yellow fever certificate
This small yellow booklet is required to re-enter Uganda and to enter many African countries. Get it early.
- Get vaccinated at a certified centre (e.g. major hospitals / port health). You receive an official “Yellow Card” (ICVP).
- The vaccine is valid for life — one dose covers all your future trips.
- Carry the physical card with your passport on every trip. Some borders check it.
Step three
Visa requirements by destination
Good news: as an East African Community citizen, your easiest first trips need no visa at all.
| Destination | For Ugandans | Notes |
| 🇰🇪 Kenya | No visa | EAC free movement — enter with passport (or National ID). No eTA needed for EAC citizens. |
| 🇷🇼 Rwanda | No visa | EAC — enter visa-free with passport or National ID. |
| 🇹🇿 Tanzania / Zanzibar | No visa | EAC visa-free. Zanzibar requires mandatory travel insurance bought before arrival — included in your package. |
| 🇦🇪 UAE (Dubai) | Visa needed | Tourist visa arranged before travel (usually via airline/agent). We handle the application for members. |
| 🇪🇬 Egypt | Visa needed | e-Visa available online. We assist with the application and documents. |
| 🇿🇦 South Africa | Visa needed | Apply at the embassy with bank statements + itinerary. Plan several weeks ahead. |
| 🇹🇷 Turkey | Visa needed | e-Visa available online for eligible travellers. We guide you through it. |
For any visa trip, JamboCampus prepares your file: invitation/booking confirmations, itinerary, return tickets and insurance. You keep your money staged — you never pay the full trip until your visa is approved.
